Nintendo today announced a mobile app that will let gamers play a variety of popular games with a straight friend or partner.
The Nintendo LGBT Community app is available in the U.S., Canada, and Australia.
The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices, and can be downloaded free of charge.
In a statement, Nintendo noted that the game “will allow gamers to explore the LGBT community, both gay and straight, and celebrate the diverse communities within Nintendo’s games and franchises.”
The app will be available in “select markets” on iOS and on Android devices “as well as the Nintendo eShop and Nintendo ePlay” on Nintendo Switch, the company said.
The app, which will be free, has been in development for about six months.
It was created in partnership with Nintendo’s LGBT community advocacy group, the Nintendo LGBT Alliance, and is an app that can be used to play games with up to four other players.
The game will be designed for older players, the statement said.
“With this app, gamers can play with their friends and partner and explore the world of Nintendo’s Nintendo Switch games in a way that is safe and enjoyable,” said the statement.
“We are always looking to create new games that will make a meaningful difference in our communities, and the LGBT Community is a great way to do just that.”
The app is free to download for all iOS and Google Play customers and has not yet launched in Australia.
