This week, ecommerce apps from major ecommerce companies like Amazon, Wal-Mart, eBay, eBay and Walmart were among those highlighted in a report from the ecommerce consultancy and analytics firm eMarketer.
Among them, mobile app platform is the No. 1 growth driver for ecommerce in 2016, and ecommerce platforms are poised to continue their growth over the next three years, eMarketers said.
“Mobile is the fastest-growing ecommerce market today, with ecommerce now valued at $13.2 trillion, a 13 percent increase over the year-ago period,” said Matt Hensley, eCommerce Analytics lead for eMarkets.
“Mobile continues to be a driver for growth in the e-commerce market, and the companies highlighted in this report are just a few of the successful ecommerce businesses that are embracing this technology.”
The report found that ecommerce mobile apps are currently valued at more than $11 billion and growing.
More mobile apps were revealed this week as part of a study conducted by eMarkers, which looked at app usage, revenue and usage for the US mobile app market, which includes Amazon, eBay , Wal-Marts, Shopify and more.
eMarketing analyst Marc Schulz said that the report’s findings were based on data collected over the past two years and that it showed that mobile app usage has been growing at a rate of 2.3 percent per year.
While mobile app growth has been outpacing that of desktop and mobile websites, the report said that it is also a growth opportunity for e-tailers.
The eMarkET report notes that e-marketplaces are growing rapidly and are likely to remain a growing part of the market for the foreseeable future.
In the next several years, mobile apps will be able to offer a much greater variety of features to consumers, which could lead to an increase in revenue and an increase of loyalty from customers.
“As mobile becomes more integrated into our e-shop experience, e-buyers will see an increased demand for their e-stores to have more apps available on their devices,” said Jason Liao, senior director of eMarkETS.
This year, eMerchants, a platform for selling and purchasing products online, launched its own app called eMerchant.
A few months later, eBanking Services added eMercher to its e-business platform, which offers the same services as eMerchanet.
Ecommerce platforms like Etsy and eBazaar have also added more apps to their platforms in recent years.
With a total of more than 2,500 mobile app developers in the US, more than 40 percent of which are based in the country, the growth of mobile app apps in the market is expected to continue for years to come.
